I ended up getting Crazy Mike to carpool with me from Vegas over to the Commerce yesterday. I like to have someone along for the ride on road trips because I’m not a big fan of the radio and I would rather just shoot the shit with someone. Luckily in Crazy Mike I think I had someone along for the ride that might actually like to talk more than me.
I am writing this right now at 4:00 AM Los Angeles time and am really bummed out that for two nights now my body has decided not to sleep. I think it could be these beds at the Commerce…they may stuff these mattresses with medium sized rocks, I’m just not sure.
I ended up booking my second worst cash game session ever tonight (last night) and am really bummed out about it. Probably the other reason I can’t sleep tonight.
I played in the 8 game mixed 1k event last night when we got here (5pm so started an hour late) and got broke within 2 hours. The weird thing about it was I went from starting stack to completely broke without playing any large pots in the No Limit Holdem or Pot Limit Omaha portions. Just kept putting chips into pots and not getting any back.
So today when I went downstairs to play the 1pm event I really wanted to focus on tight play and lasting a long time. We started with 8k ($1000 HORSE event) in chips and my high point got up to 13k or so before I slid all the way down to broke and out first at my table again. Boy did I run into some weird hands too, especially in the Razz rounds, I mean stuff I don’t think I’ve seen before. Either way I was first out. The funny thing is after two big Omaha 8 hands back to back where I started with aces in the hole I got up and left for 45 minutes … still first one out…almost funny.
In the midst of my short hiatus I decided to hop over and play the $1600 buy in bounty event. I figured if I was going to multi-table the best approach would be to try and win a big pot early and go back to play the 8 game when I cooled down a bit. Luckily I ran into the perfect opportunity to do that on my third hand. I was on the button and the action folded over to the cut-off. He raised and I three bet to 1300 (blinds 75-150) with King/Six of hearts. Not a premium hand obviously but I thought he was stealing and I decided to resteal a small pot real quick. Unfortunately the small blind flat called (initial raiser also called with???). The flop came out 9hearts, 8hearts, 4 spades (or clubs). Checked to me I bet 4000 (we started with 8k) small blind shoved I called. He had pocket queens so I had 11 outs with two to go…slight dog. I whiffed and was immediately on a micro stack. I held onto that for a couple of laps and got it in preflop with Ace Queen offsuit and lost (9-10 offsuit won the pot).
After that I headed back over to the HORSE event and finished going broke. Then I went downstairs and spewed chips for four straight hours. All in All maybe the most frustrating day of poker I have ever been involved in. Sometimes at the end of a day like this you kind of scratch your head and wonder if you will ever go deep in a tourney again. But, like a lot of things in life, it’s all about the numbers. All you can do is try to figure out where the mistakes were made and focus on doing well when you saddle up next time. Tomorrow is the 5k buy-in 8 game mixed Championship event. I don’t expect we will have a really big field but I really want to play well, run good, go deep, then win the damn thing. Oh and I could really use a haircut so maybe I can try to sleep for a while and get up in time to get that done. Goodnight (hopefully) or should I say good morning.
